Great question! Creators of real world traffic analytics, Motionloft, are able to provide the solution for traffic counts. Motionloft (www.motionloft.com) installs sensors that give property owners, retailers, and others both pedestrian and vehicle counts in real time, 24/7. These analytics can be used for any number of reasons including site selection, tailoring business hours, and to measure the impact of marketing campaigns at brick and mortar locations. This data is new, current, and aggregates to show trends over time. It destroys traffic counts that are based on old data or statistical sampling!
It really depends on the site you're looking into. If it were a Rural, non-MSA study area then I would agree with the poster about STDB.com being a little inaccurate. However, if you're dealing with even a remotely metropolitan area, they should have very good data. I would echo the opinion that DOT is probably the best, but if you confirm and the figures are fairly similar, you're at a great advantage to be able to utilize the mapping and graphics tools of STDB and the CCIM services.
